Assistant Director of Nursing – Full-time – Heartland Care Center, Inc. – Marcus

Heartland Care Center, Inc., in Marcus, IA, is looking to hire a full-time Assistant Director of Nursing.

Schedule:

This position primarily follows a Monday to Friday schedule, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, flexibility is required, as the Assistant Director of Nursing may occasionally be needed to cover various shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends, to support clinical operations and staff supervision.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) will assume the responsibility for the Heartland Care Center for directing and supporting the clinical/nursing operations in designated areas within the organization. The individual will directly be responsible for the clinical team, nurses and medical assistants, within the health centers.

 

The ADON will work closely with the providers and other health center leaders to assure coordination and implementation of clinical, ancillary, and business services in the health centers to meet or exceed standards while providing excellent patient experience across all services.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Uphold Heartland Care Center policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to written Quality Management Program.
  • Analyze and report potential quality issues to the Director of Nursing AND or Administrator.
  • Work collaboratively with HCC managers, providers, support staff, and leadership team to ensure efficient and effective HCC operations.
  • Utilize communication strategies to address challenges resulting in productive resolution.
  • Ensure the scheduling of nursing staff is optimized for HCC.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills to assist in effective resolution.
  • Prioritize, delegate, and supervise work assignments to ensure patient care is complete.
  • Develop training modules and materials for nurses, medical assistants and other patient care team members. Train, monitor, evaluate and provide feedback to nurses, medical assistants and other patient care team members.
  • Mentor, orient, and coach clinic specific operations and patient care to clinical support staff.
  • Ensure staff follows protocols for storing vaccines, administering injections, and venipuncture.
  • Review and update policy and procedure manual as changes are approved.
  • Develop, manage, and continue to improve processes of Quality and Risk Management.
  • Liaison between HCC and the state regulatory agencies for patient care issues.
  • Monitor, report, and manage necessary studies to assure the quality care for patients treated by the HCC providers.
  • Ensure timely quality management communication and reports flow through appropriate channels to appropriate individuals.
  • Stay current with Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement initiatives and implement as directed.
  • Act or support the role of Assisted Living Nurse with assessments and overall care.
  • Ensure immunizations for HCC employees follow protocols and documentation is forwarded to DON.
  • Provide direct patient care at health centers and events, as needed, to insure well- developed, clinical expertise.
  • Maintain confidentiality of HCC business.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff members and outside resources to deliver high quality service.
  • Observe and practice all HCC Patient Experience Service Standards. Practice ICARE when interacting with patients, their families, visitors, or internal customers.
  • Practice ICARE phone etiquette during all phone interactions.
  • Always exercise courtesy whenever patients, family members, visitors and co-workers are present.
  • Respect privacy and dignity of our patients, family members, visitors and co-workers.
  • Maintain professionalism in the presence of patients, their families, visitors and co-workers.
  • Act as a role model, verbally and behaviorally demonstrating skill, enthusiasm, positive problem solving, commitment and loyalty to the profession and the organization.
  • Engage as a member of the care team caring for individuals in the community
  • Prep for and lead daily huddles
  • Promote and educate on evidence-based preventive care, chronic care needs, and self- management support
  • Deliver clinical screening tests and immunizations
  • Follow applicable regulations: DIAL and Federal regulations, Fire Marshall, OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA.
  • Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organization standards
  • Assist or Act as the supervising infection control and prevention program/processes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to: identify infectious disease processes, help in surveillance and epidemiologic investigations, help prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents, environment of care, evaluate the disinfection and sterilization processes, education of employees to reduce exposure to communicable diseases, educate employees about infection control and prevention circumstances, counseling employees after exposure to communicable diseases.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing

 

License/Registration/Certification:

  • Current RN license
  • Current Basic Life Support card

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum of a year of experience in administration management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and fairly: verbally and in writing.
  • Possess strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must demonstrate integrity, sound judgment and strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to improve care for patients with
  • chronic diseases.
  • Proven capabilities in building and maintaining cross-functional relationships in intense environments that demanded fast adjustments to shifting priorities
  • Must have strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Visio, etc.)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings or weekends at HCC.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide world-class patient experience using ICARE principles and practices.
  • Ability to be proactive and to go above and beyond the call of duty; take the initiative to provide a world class patient experience in all encounters via email, phone or in person.

 

Typical Working Conditions:

  • The office setting is a normal work environment. May be subjected to temperature variances in the office.
  • Requires sitting, standing, or walking for up to 16 hours a day. Some bending, stretching, or reaching may be necessary. Lifting to 40 pounds may be required on occasion.
