Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Data Architect will harness the power of the AgState enterprise to design and build a data management environment that enables efficient and scalable delivery of analytics solutions. The role is focused on designing and implementing scalable data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity across AgState’s diverse business operations. This position requires collaboration with AgState business teams to develop data models that enhance business intelligence tools, fostering data-driven decision-making. This role will keep a beat on the marketplace of data architecture and engineering technologies and approaches and ensure AgState remains positioned to continually capture value-adding opportunities.

You Will:

Data Architecture (40%)

  • Advocate to raise AgState’s data management capabilities
  • Uphold and champion principles and guidelines
  • Establish best practices for data management
  • Design intuitive data models implemented in distributed data processing patterns
  • Understand, develop, and implement data standards
  • Act as a technical expert and consultant on data management for all AgState businesses
  • Evangelize a data driven culture, advocating for proactive development of data integrity processes
  • Understand and articulate the implications of data integrity business decision making
  • Identify process gaps on both the IT and Business side that lead to data quality issues and define resolution options
  • Create cross functional alignment on definitions and sources of truth for key data entities that are
  • integral to the business’ data strategies
  • Partner with AgState business and functional teams to develop new, value-added data management pipelines and business insights opportunities

 

Data Engineering (30%)

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure data pipelines using AgState data management technologies
  • Design optimized data models for enterprise analytics and reporting needs.
  • Develop ETL/ELT processes, ensuring efficient data movement and transformation.
  • Optimize query performance, data processing, and storage
  • Implement data governance, security, and access controls
  • Act as a technical expert and consultant on data management for a value stream or team
  • Understand and articulate the implications of data integrity business decision making for reporting, machine learning, or other analytic techniques

 

Data Quality, Compliance & Governance (20%)

  • Implement monitoring and observability frameworks to ensure data quality and lineage
  • Enforce data governance, security, and compliance standards
  • Review and adjust according to feedback loops and performance metrics to continuously improve data processes
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise data policies and industry best practices
  • Understand data quality issues from stakeholders and establish metrics to bring focus and attention to data issues

 

Innovation and Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Drive innovation by evaluating and integrating emerging data technologies
  • Encourage a culture of experimentation to test new solutions and optimize existing workflows
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual data processes and improve efficiency
  • Challenge existing approaches and introduce breakthrough ideas to enhance data capabilities

 

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Business Analytics, Data Science, and/or Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years working in/designing/building data management environments
  • 5+ years experience working as a Data Engineer/Data Developer or similar role

 

Location of Position:

This role is hybrid with travel to corporate offices required.
