Position Summary:

The Hospital Ambassador/Greeter is the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and guests entering the facility. This role is responsible for creating a welcoming, sage and helpful environment by assisting patients in and out of vehicles and wheelchairs, providing directions, escorting individuals to clinics and hospital departments, and offering information during construction or facility changes. The Ambassador ensures a positive first impression while supporting the hospital’s mission of exceptional patient-centered care.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet patients, visitors, and staff warmly upon arrival and departure. Look up patient appointments if necessary.
  • Help patients move through the registration process in an orderly manner.
  • Assist patients with mobility needs including: Helping in and out of vehicles, Transferring in and out of wheelchairs safely, and pushing wheelchairs to designated locations.
  • Provide clear directions and escort patients/visitors to clinics, diagnostic areas, or hospital departments.
  • Answer question regarding hospital services, locations, and parking.
  • Offer wayfinding assistance during construction projects and temporary changes in routes.
  • Monitor entrances for safety and provide appropriate assistance during inclement weather.
  • Communicate promptly with hospital staff for special assistance needs ( e.g., interpreter services, security, medical emergencies).
  • Maintain wheelchair inventory at main entrances and ensure they are clean and in working condition.
  • Support infection prevention by following hand hygiene and sanitization procedures.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and confidentiality in all interactions.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Preferred: Previous customer service, hospitality, or healthcare experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to safely assist and transfer patients with varying mobility levels.
  • Knowledge of proper wheelchair handling and patient safety techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm and helpful in stressful situations.
  • Strong problem-solving and wayfinding skills, especially during construction or route changes.
  • General understanding of departments, services and tests provided by Cherokee Regional.
  • Physical ability to push wheelchairs, walk long distances, and stand for extended periods.
  • Dependability and punctuality.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and of spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Skill in typing and data entry with minimal errors
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Ability to operate a personal computer with a general understanding of application software and an understanding of the Internet
  • Ability to learn organization-specific software
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
