JOB DESCRIPTION
In partnership with educators, families, and communities, this role serves as a teacher assistant for a juvenile home education program at either a detention center or shelter care facility. Working within the agency’s educational framework, the juvenile home teacher assistant fosters positive learning environments, ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines, and enhances the overall success of learners.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate arts degree and/or a minimum of educational program experience and Iowa paraeducator certification.
Essential Functions
- Implement programs and procedures as directed by the teacher.
- Guide and/or provide instruction for independent study, enrichment and remedial work with students as needed.
- Monitor and assist with the maintenance of a positive learning environment.
- Administer, score and record student work progress as directed by the teacher.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with facility staff, schools and agencies.
- Assist in program planning.
- Assist the teacher with compiling program data.
- Provide the teacher with anecdotal information about student progress.
- Participate in ongoing program review.
- Communicate information with facility staff in a timely manner.
- Perform duties as assigned by the teacher and/or program coordinator.
- Actively participate in staff development.
- Other duties as assigned.
