Patient Access Representative – Overnights – Full-time – Cherokee Regional Medical Center

Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA, is looking to hire an overnight, full-time Patient Access Representative.

Patient Access Representative – Admitting

Reports to: Patient Access Manager 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide great customer service with a friendly, helpful disposition for all people entering Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Efficiently and accurately collect demographic and financial information from all patients following appropriate regulatory guidelines. Obtain the appropriate signatures from registered patients and provide them with the required information regarding their rights and responsibilities, financial assistance and other regulated information.

ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: 36 hours weekly, 12 hour shifts, 6pm to 6am overnights, every third weekend rotation 
(potential on call schedule)

Requirements

Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.

License/Registration/Certification:

  • None Required

Experience:

  • Customer service experience within an office setting. Preferred: Experience in a medical setting

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of office procedures and of spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Skill in typing and data entry with minimal errors
  • Ability to to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Ability to operate a personal computer with a general understanding of application software and an understanding of the Internet
  • Ability to learn organization-specific software
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides a friendly, welcoming and helpful atmosphere
  • Interviews patients to obtain reason for visit, demographic information and insurance information
  • Answers incoming calls on the main phone line, appropriately answering caller questions or transferring the call to the proper department
  • Completes other clerical duties to process admission paperwork
  • Completes scanning functions daily
