Position Summary: Coordinate physician orders and records to obtain authorization from insurance coverage to secure reimbursement for services performed at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluates daily workload to prioritize work appropriately
- Communicates well with insurance companies, nurses and providers to obtain authorization, additional information or documentation as needed to complete the task
- Identifies documentation that may be helpful in securing the authorization
- Answers email, staff messages and voicemail timely
- Continually re-evaluates workload for prioritizing
- Expedites more “urgent” requests for improved patient care
- Communicates authorization outcomes timely and appropriately
- Documents authorization status in health information system
Education:
- Required: High School diploma or GED
License/Registration/Certification:
- None required
Experience:
- Required: Experience in the medical field
- Preferred: Working knowledge of computers, payor billing requirements, coding and insurance guidelines
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Skill in typing and data entry
- Skill in managing one’s own time
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to work in a high-volume office with many interruptions throughout the day
