Psychologist 3 – CCUSO – Full-time

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Psychologist 3 to join a dynamic and creative treatment environment at the Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders (CCUSO), in Cherokee, IA. This is a full-time opportunity with opportunity for advancement, professional growth, and development.

 

The Psychologist 3 will provide treatment services such as group counseling, psycho-education, and case management services for an assigned caseload. The successful candidate for this position will be a mental health professional with a master’s degree or higher who is interested in being a member of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive residential treatment services to sex offenders. This position best fits someone who is professionally creative, has good boundaries, and is open to learning skills in a dynamic and specialized field of treatment. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication and the ability to work on a team as well as independently. We provide extensive training, support, and supervision for employees interested in a forensic treatment career.

 

This position will be required to obtain IBTSA SOTP-2 certification within three (3) years of appointment.

CCUSO provides a secure, long-term, and highly structured setting to treat sexual offenders who have served their prison terms, but, in a separate civil trial, have been found likely to reoffend. The facility provides state-of-the-art treatment to patients to lower their risk of re-offending and to release them from confinement as quickly as possible. There is a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative services focused on addressing the conditions impacting a patient’s likelihood of re-offending.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate degree in psychology, behavior analysis, or counseling, and experience equal to two years of full-time clinical work in the provision of counseling and therapy in an institutional or community mental health, intellectual disability, long-term care, or correctional program.
2) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in psychology, behavior analysis, social work, or counseling, and experience equal to four years of full-time clinical work in the provision of counseling and therapy in an institutional or community mental health, intellectual disability, long-term care, or correctional program.
3) Possession of a license to practice psychology from the Iowa Board of Psychology.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Psychologist 2.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Designated positions at the Glenwood and Woodward Resource Centers require certification with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, or require such certification within a period of time after hire as determined by the appointing authority.
Designated positions may require licensure by the Iowa Board of Psychology Examiners, as determined by the appointing authority.
