The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Public Service Supervisor to join the team at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI). This is a full-time opportunity.

The Public Service Supervisor will provide supervision and oversight to the Security and Training Departments, as well as assist facility leadership to ensure efficacy in facility operations. Some of the main duties will include supervising and evaluating the work of subordinates along with recommending personnel actions related to selection, disciplinary procedures, performance, leaves, grievances, work schedules, and assignments. This position will also provide executive support by investigating, researching, collating, and summarizing information for requests for information, employee grievances, human rights complaints, tort claims, and investigations into employee misconduct.

Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.

CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well. Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) and experience equal to four years of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; specialized technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations.
2) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent); and
b. One year of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations; and
c. A total of three years of education and full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements..
